>FTM people tagging their specifically FTM-related posts with “MTF”

C’mon, guys. Don’t do that. I doubt a lot of trans ladies want to read about the latest and greatest way to bind or pack.

I started a transition blog.

Like it says, I’ll be documenting physical/psychological changes, and I’ll also post and reblog FTM resources. Follow it if you want!

Thinking of starting a transitioning blog. I’ll probably update it every time I take T, so once a week or once every two weeks or so, whichever, or whenever something interesting happens regarding transitioning. It’ll be mostly changes that happen to me, both physical and psychological. I’ll also use it to answer questions specifically pertaining to the FTM transition, for anyone who’s curious. I’m kind of an open book when it comes to this kind of stuff (except my birth name; that shit’s locked up and sealed fo lyfe) so I don’t mind answering somewhat personal questions. Maybe some pre-T trans masculine folks would find it useful?

Anyway, would anyone be interested?

OH and what should its URL be????

Informed Consent Form for Testosterone

I went to Planned Parenthood recently, and in order to start HRT through them you must sign and initial an informed consent form. It lists all the known effects and side effects that may occur while you take testosterone. I figured that some FTM/trans masculine people out there might find this useful, so here it is. I copied it exactly as it appears on the form. Anyway, this is what you should expect to see if you go to begin HRT, but your form might be slightly different. The information should be pretty much the same, though.

I’m just confused and kind of concerned about this letter. Basically in order to have a consultation regarding HRT with my primary care physician, they needed a letter detailing what was discussed in therapy, my history, current mental state, ETC.

And it says right here in the letter that my therapist would “support hormone treatment because of the relief I hope that would provide.”

Does this mean I have the go-ahead for HRT?

Does this mean my doctor can potentially prescribe testosterone?

Help I am confuse????

Thoughts

I watched Small Town Security. They aired it again after a second airing of Breaking Bad, so I figured I’d take a look. It’s an “unscripted TV show,” which essentially translates to a reality TV show, so the characters are real people with real lives. I had my doubts, as the commercials kind of played it off to be a copy of Reno 911, but I ended up being wrong about my original assumption.

All in all, I’m pretty pleased with how they presented Dennis Croft’s character. He isn’t presented in an overwhelmingly positive light, but he isn’t presented in a negative light, either. He’s presented in a realistic light. He’s a lieutenant, he has a family that he’s (apparently) been separated from, he has a military background, he has high hopes for the security team, and he happens to be transgender. It was just one aspect of his life that happened to be a little out of the ordinary, and it wasn’t treated like a huge deal.

I’m also very pleased that they brought up the hardcore, fundie Christian response to transgender people: The idea that being trans* is an abomination, and that “you shouldn’t be something you’re not,” and all that usual BS. Dennis’ response completely shot down that idea. The show stressed that being trans* is NOT a choice by any means, and that day-to-day life is a struggle. Dennis didn’t say it outright, but it was heavily implied that transitioning is a necessity for many trans* people. This part was shown in a “five years ago” clip in another character’s TV show (kind of like a flashback, but not quite).

When the host of the TV show asked Dennis how he feels today, post-transition, he responded, “I feel free.” His transition was shown in a positive-for-him light on the TV show, and it was undoubtedly that way for him in real life.

But more importantly, I’m extremely happy that there’s more trans male representation in the media that isn’t negative OR incredibly positive, but realistic. Young trans boys can, if they watch Small Town Security, realize that their feelings are not only valid, but common. They have someone to relate to now, who isn’t some glamorous dancer who happens to be the son of a world-famous singer.

I’m extremely pleased that AMC is running this show, and I couldn’t be more supportive of it at this point. Of course, these are just my impressions from the first episode, and they are subject to change if the show suddenly focuses all their attention on Dennis. I doubt that that will happen, as all of the characters still haven’t been formally introduced, and my gut feeling tells me they won’t make a massive deal out of it.

joke

Two trans men are talking to each other. One interrupts the conversation at hand and says,

“Hey buddy there’s a couple things I gotta get off my chest.”

He winks and his friend grins. The live studio audience bursts out into laughter. End joke.

A note to my fellow trans men:

It’s completely fine if you don’t want bottom surgery. Completely! I don’t want it at this point in my life, either. It doesn’t make you less OR more of a man if you don’t want to do that.

But for fuck’s sake, don’t put down the surgery or the results. For some trans guys out there, bottom surgery is absolutely necessary for them. You don’t need to be dicks about what they need and want. And you have no right to shame them for that, or for what their body might or might not look like.

Duct Tape binder for all!

fuckyeahftms:

My duct tape binder!

It doesn’t work very well unless I wear an undershirt, and a loose top.

If you’re like me (dirt poor, can’t afford a binder, but live in a place full of duct tape and red necks) then this may be the temporary look for you!

All you need to do is…

1)Take a roll of your favorite duct tape

2) Rip off 2 small pieces and cover your nips!

3) (depending on how large your breasts are, this next step may take 5-10 long strips of duct tape per breast) Measure from the inner corner of the duct tape on your nips to about your mid back or scapula. That’s how long the next few pieces of tape need to be. Rip off 3 to start. One in the middle covering the nip tape, one on top, and one on bottom. Be sure that when you set the tape starting at the inner corner of the nip tape, you pull on the tape as your fastening it to your back. Keep doing this until you get the desired shape.

4) (optional) If your tape is starting to clump and wrinkle, you can put tape over it horizontally to even everything out. I normally only need to do this with the starting points at my mid chest.

5) Put on a tank and your manly shirt and go clubbing around with your new ghetto binder!

This may not work as well for the bigger breasts, but it works fine for A, B, and most C cups.

alright

I’m gonna get on my soapbox and say that using duct tape for binding is definitely an awful idea and frankly there are safer, equally-cheap options out there (such as the double-sports bra method—wear one regularly, the other backwards. You can use really cheap soft ones and it’ll work pretty well if you wear a loose shirt).

There are also some programs which provide gently used binders to people who need them. I’m also kind of surprised that fuckyeahftms posted this, because a lot of young trans guys use that blog as a resource, and might try this method and hurt themselves.

Even if you aren’t putting it around your entire torso (as you would with bandages, for instance), which would crush your rib cage and probably eventually break your sternum, you can still rip your skin off.

Which is extremely painful and can lead to some really nasty infections.

So to anyone who needs/wants to bind for any reason: Don’t use duct tape. It is NEVER a good idea for any reason.

I'm just an average guy in college who likes to embarrass himself online. I'm also a homo-gay extremist. Sometimes I draw or write and post stuff here, but I mostly just reblog shit. I like paleontology, science-fiction, super heroes, and other stuff. I'm also a comic aficionado who takes great pleasure in criticizing newspaper strips.

Check out my links down thar if you want to see my art or watch a fish do something silly.

And a fair warning: I talk a LOT with my buds here. Tumblr-savior "convo" if you have no interest in our nonsense. Also, I try to keep my blog SFW, but every so often I'll reblog/post something NSFW. Those will be tagged as "NSFW" in case you want to savior that.
