I have no idea how to react to comments on my really old art.

Several years ago I was in this awful ~*edgy teenager phase*~ and I drew a lot of Nazis/Nazi leaders, and other WWII actors. One picture was of Stalin laughing at Hitler because his mustache was larger, and another picture (for Hitler’s birthday oh god I’m so sorry) was of zombie!Hitler eating Stalin’s severed head. 

Just typing that down makes me feel like a huge tool ok. Looking back through my old sketchbooks makes me feel physically ill, not to mentioned embarrassed and ashamed.

Anyway, someone comes in and comments that they’re sad to see Hitler (they called him Adi, short for Adolf) feeling insecure about his small mustache on the first one, and on the second one, they say, “yay a happy ending [for Hitler]!”

How the fuck do I respond to that? I don’t want to be rude because I appreciate every little comment I get, even on this old shit. I’m ridiculously tempted to just put all my old Nazi drawings in dA storage or delete them forever because I’m sick of getting comments on them when I prefer my newer, original stuff. I’d much rather get comments on my OCs, or even my newer fanart.

But everyone knows that dA is a cesspool where only vaguely sexual fanart and fetish art gets attention, so I should probably stop feeling bad when my OC art doesn’t get any comments. :|

You know, whenever privileged, white, cisgendered, heterosexual men worry or complain about losing rights because of feminism, I have to laugh at them.

Bitches, if you’ve paid any attention to history or current events, you’d know that you are so fucking privileged it’s unbelievable. Sit the fuck down and learn to deal with the idea that WOAH maybe women DO deserve equal pay for equal work. 

Maybe I take comics a little too seriously.

But Fort Knox is still the crappiest newspaper comic out there. Take a look at this Sunday strip:

Seriously, what’s the joke there? The gumball machine broke, spilled everything, and…? He’s chewing gum. OK. I don’t see a punchline. Is he supposed to be chewing a LOT of gum at once? Perhaps, but that’s definitely not the right way to draw it. You’ve gotta exaggerate things in comics. Make his cheeks about twice (or three times!) that size and you’ve got a REAL punchline, Mr. Paul Jon. As it is now, it looks like he’s chewing a normal amount of gum for a cartoon character.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg, folks. This comic has some of the most uninspired character designs out there. The guy in the red hoodie here is Wes, an asthmatic, introverted, bullied kid. His brother Donald is basically a bland remake of Jason from FoxTrot, except with a teddy bear named Castro and no real intelligence. The father and mother have virtually no personalities—the only striking feature of the father is that he’s in the military. The mom is just you’re basic, canned comic strip mother. Also? All of the characters have the exact same face, especially if they’re related. Friends of the main family have minor differences—such as a different nose shape.

The majority of strips are like the one I’ve posted here. No real punchline, no buildup, RIDICULOUSLY bland, and copy/paste drawings. There was even one strip for Memorial Day where the comic “artist” had someone else draw tribute art of WWII soldiers rushing into battle. He then added some crappy, semi-sentimental panel where the father is reading some book about WWII to his sons and saying something “heartfelt.” But really—if Memorial Day is SO IMPORTANT to you that you’d dedicated an entire Sunday strip to acknowledging it, the LEAST you could do is draw your own damn art for your own damn strip. (Now, don’t misunderstand me. Memorial Day is important, but it’s rarely acknowledged in the funny pages anymore. Thus, it’s strange to see a whole Sunday strip dedicated to it, and when you do see it, it usually means that the cartoonist cares deeply about its significance.)

Even Tom Preston’s comic, So, You’re a Cartoonist? is better than this drivel. And that’s saying something.

You know, I’m kind of sick of the “younger generation sucks” mentality.

Yeah, I get it. You’re a fan of the original 151, you had a Gameboy, you had a Super Nintendo or Nintendo 64 or whatever. Yeah, those old games are great. That’s all fine. I love many of them myself. While I didn’t own a Nintendo 64 at any point in my life, I did have a Super Nintendo and a Playstation. I still love playing Super Mario World, or the original Spyro games. And you know what? I dislike a lot of the new versions of these characters (ESPECIALLY the Spyro games).

But seriously, hating on an entire generation (I’m talking, like, 7-10 year-olds) just because they aren’t familiar with your ~*precious*~ Pokemon Red or Ocarina of Time makes no sense whatsoever. They weren’t even born when those games came out; how the FUCK could you expect them to know about those games? 

GROUP PROJECTS SUCK

Nobody in my group will correspond with me about the information and shit. I emailed them last Thursday and have yet to get a single response regarding ANYTHING. A “thanks for sending the info, so-and-so is working on the presentation now!” would be nice. Just ANYTHING to let me know that they’ve received my email.

If my grade suffers from this, I will be RIDICULOUSLY pissed off.

And then you have to deal with people (particularly females) going on about OH MY GOD THEY’RE SO CUTE TOGETHER.

Am I the only person who gets pissed off by the “ORIGINAL 151 EVERYTHING ELSE SUCKS” mentality that Pokemon fans tend to have? And it’s mostly hipsters and pseudo-nerds that do this—you know, “girl gamers” who don’t know anything else about Pokemon.

I mean, yeah, the original games started the whole thing off, but they had their faults and retarded Pokemon as well. The Black and White games were phenomenal, and many of the designs of the Pokemon were actually really, really cool. They added entirely new mechanics to battling and connecting with other Trainers as well. If you’ve never played any Pokemon games at all, then you really can’t judge the games, can you?

Like what you want, but don’t like something just because it makes you look “retro” or “hipster.” Like it because you actually LIKE it.
